Simon Gallant

Simon is an experienced media and defamation solicitor. Inspired as a young trainee by being on the winning side for a libelled architecture student (Pitts v Zipper Magazine), Simon has gone on to represent numerous newspaper, television and publishing groups.  He has also been instructed to protect the reputations of politicians, actors, entrepreneurs, faith groups, and many more besides.

Simon has been involved in a number of important libel cases including Berkoff v Burchill [1996] 4 All ER 1008, Slipper v BBC [1991] 1 All ER 165, Stern v Piper & Ors [1996] EWCA Civ 1291, Foxen v Scotsman Publications Ltd [1995] EMLR 145 and Schapira v. Ahronson (1999) EMLR 735

Simon is joint author of ‘Media Law: a Practical Guide to Managing Publication Risks’ (Sweet & Maxwell, 2000).

Simon also has extensive legal experience in the fields of copyright, commercial litigation and contracts.

Simon was a Partner at Mishcon de Reya for many years before running his own boutique media law practice in Soho.  Simon was formerly a lecturer in law at the University of Bristol and was one of the founders of Living Health, a groundbreaking interactive television service offering public-facing services for the NHS in the West Midlands.
